Growing up, I knew there was something special about college NFL graduation rates. My parents instilled in me the importance of education and they would often talk about how important it is for kids to stay in school and eventually get a degree. Even so, I never truly understood the sheer magnitude of college NFL graduation rates until I became an adult myself.
My initial thought was that college NFL players were just trying to stay eligible for the big game and not much else. Boy, was I wrong! After doing some research, I discovered that college NFL players are very committed to their education. In fact, the graduation rate for college NFL athletes is higher than the general student body. As of 2019, the numbers indicated that 78% of college NFL players graduate within six years of having started their college careers, compared to an average 48% of college students across the board.
This statistic is truly inspiring and has caused me to adjust my opinion of college NFL athletes. Contrary to many negative stereotypes associated with football players, it’s clear that they prioritize their education over playing in the big game. Not only does this demonstrate their commitment to serving the greater good, but it also proves that success in one area does not necessarily mean failure in another.
I began to think about how we can use this example of success to lift up other athletes and students. I appreciate how college NFL teams are setting an example for encouraging students to remain in school so that they can pursue a higher degree. Programs like The Graduation Initiative are implementing strategies to support student athletes in staying in school, receiving their degrees, and launching a career after college.
What’s really impressive about notable college NFL athletes is how they’re achieving success not just on the field, but in their personal lives too. Several former college NFL players have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs, while others have stormed the corporate arena.
It’s quite humbling to realize just how talented and hardworking many college NFL athletes really are. Not only do they show dedication on the field, but in the classroom as well. Even if a football career doesn’t happen for them, these athletes have the education and skills necessary to make a great impact within their communities.
It brings me hope to learn about the successes of college NFL athletes that continue to challenge societal norms. I think it’s incredibly encouraging for young athletes and college-bound students alike to have role models who demonstrate the importance of pursuing a higher education, even when success at the professional level isn’t achievable.
Additionally, I believe these stories of successful college NFL athletes should encourage more schools and universities to review their policies and invest in better resources to help keep their students in school and engaged. There should be more focus on the need for increased support for student athletes, such as providing them with academic and professional development that will help them reach their goals.
Overall, the graduation rate of college NFL athletes speaks volumes about their dedication and commitment to their education. Although there are still improvements to be made, there’s no denying that these athletes are setting a great example for future generations.
