I’ve been thinking, did the NFL legalize weed? Wow, that’s a mind- bending thought. The idea of the National Football League legalizing something that’s been so restricted over the past few decades is something I never thought I’d see.
Sure, the opinion polls come and go, but I thought this would be one of those things that could be debated for years, if not decades, without any conclusion. I guess we’ve come a long way these days.
The NFL’s stance on potential marijuana usage among its teams’ players has always been at the center of debate. It was only three years ago that the organization completely changed its stance on the drug, and instead chose to allow limited amounts of it, so long as it was strictly used for medicinal purposes.
I know I’m just speculating here, but it really looks like the NFL finally caved to the public opinion and is now allowing limited marijuana use among its teams. I’m sure this will come with a few changes on how the league deals with players who test positive for the substance, and the punishments for those who are caught using it recreationally.
It’s kind of crazy to see the NFL standing their ground on the issue, despite what so many people were saying. It’s like no one ever thought the NFL could actually ever legalize weed and now it looks like they finally did.
To me, I think it’s great that this finally happened. It’s about time the NFL showed that it’s willing to listen to the public and take a step in the right direction. I’m sure it will make a difference in the lives of the players who are able to use it for medicinal purposes as it has proven to help those who suffer from chronic pain and other such medical conditions.
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out over the long term, but I’m definitely glad that the NFL made this move. Not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it shows that the league is taking the opinions of its fans seriously and is willing to make a change when necessary.
