Stetson Bennett is an incredible quarterback who should be making offensive coordinators do double-takes as NFL prospects. He was a standout in high school and was almost too good to be true. So, why isn’t Stetson Bennett an NFL prospect? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he’s from an FCS school and not from one of the more popular FBS schools in college football.
First of all, I think he’s facing a lot of obstacles. He’s undersized and not as physically gifted when compared to players from higher-profile schools like Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama. He may not be able to throw the ball over 50 yards, or has the height and frame to stand in the pocket confidently. Even though Stetson Bennett has the skills to be a successful NFL quarterback, NFL teams still overlook FCS players because they don’t have the same type of competition.
Not only that, but Bennett also isn’t the most highly-touted QB prospect available and will have to prove himself before NFL teams will even consider him as an NFL prospect. He’s not one of the top-rated QBs in the draft, and it feels like many of the teams are waiting for the better prospects to come out of the draft before they look at Stetson Bennett.
Another issue is the fact that his school isn’t well-known. There aren’t a lot of scouts coming to an FCS school, so Bennett hasn’t been getting the same type of exposure as someone from a power five school. He hasn’t been able to participate in some of the bigger boys combines and pro day events to show his talents and prove to the NFL teams that he can be successful at the next level.
It’s a shame that Stetson Bennett is getting so overlooked. He’s a talented player and is absolutely deserving of a chance to prove what he can do in the NFL. He played four years of college football at a high level and he’s proven himself more than capable of succeeding at the next level. He’s put up some amazing numbers in college and he can be a leader on an NFL team. I think it’s time for NFL teams to finally give Stetson Bennett a shot and see just what he can do in the league.
I also think that there’s a chance Stetson Bennett could be an NFL journeyman. Despite all of the obstacles he’s faced, Bennett is still talented enough to have a few successful seasons in the league. He’s a great quarterback, and if given the chance, I’m sure he could make plays and help a team succeed in the NFL. It may take him a couple of seasons to get acclimated to the speed of the NFL game, but I think he could do it.
When it comes down to it, Stetson Bennett is an extremely talented quarterback, and he just needs to be given a chance to show what he can do. I’m sure he can contribute to a team and bring a sense of leadership and experience that many NFL teams look for. I know there’s a lot of talented QBs in this draft class, but I truly believe Stetson Bennett is just as special and should be given the opportunity to prove himself at the next level.
