Well, I was just talking to my friend about who runs the National Football League, and it’s got me quite intrigued. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar industry and lots of power, influence, and money is behind it. That being said, who does actually run the show?
Well, the league is run by a 32-team Board of Governors. These governors are the owners of each club in the league. They operate through a Commissioner, currently Roger Goodell, who is responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of the league. The Commissioners are appointed and serve on a multi-year contract, with the length of their term dependent on the confidence of the Board of Governors.
The core of the NFL is its competition committee, which is made up of head coaches and personnel people from all 32 NFL teams. This group is responsible for shaping many of the rules that govern the game. The Competition Committee meets yearly and makes recommendations to the NFL Player Personnel Department, which then works with the league’s legal division to draft the final language for each rule change.
The NFL’s legal division is charged with ensuring that the league is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. They also provide legal counsel to the commissioner, owners and member clubs. Finally, the league’s legal team performs any required arbitration and, if necessary, litigation on behalf of the NFL.
Another important body that runs the NFL is the Management Council, which negotiates collective bargaining agreements with the NFL Players Association. The Management Council is made up of eight members – four from labor and four from management. They are responsible for negotiating and ratifying the league’s labor contracts that determine the salaries of players.
Finally, there are also the less visible players who help run the league. This includes backroom staff, financers, and marketers, who all play essential roles in the day-to-day operations of the league. These people arehire professionals in their respective fields, who are experts on their subject matter and can bring a unique perspective to the league.
These are just a few of the many figures who have an influence on the NFL.
