Football is one of the most popular sports in America, and every year the contracts of the NFL players become more and more expensive. The biggest contracts are usually the ones you hear about the most, but who currently has the biggest contract in the NFL?
When I think of massive contracts, the first name that springs to mind is Aaron Rodgers. The 10-time Pro Bowler was signed by the Green Bay Packers to an astounding four-year, $134 million deal in 2018, which made him the highest paid player in the NFL. It’s no surprise as Rodgers is a legendary quarterback and leader for the team, so the contract made perfect sense for the team.
But Rodgers isn’t the only one to land a big contract. Russell Wilson recently signed a four-year, $87.6 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, which included a $31 million signing bonus – the highest in the NFL. Wilson’s performances over the last couple of seasons has been nothing short of amazing, so I can understand why Seattle were willing to pay such an impressive sum to lock down one of best quarterbacks in the league.
Of course, it’s not just the quarterbacks that are securing big deals in the league. Star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins recently re-signed a five-year $82.5 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, and Julio Jones became one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL with his three-year, $66 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
But when it comes to the biggest contracts in the NFL, nothing compares to the 10-year, $325 million deal that Patrick Mahomes signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in July 2020. This contract was that not only made Mahomes the highest paid player in the NFL, but also the highest paid team athlete of all time. It’s an impressive deal that pays tribute to Mahomes’ outstanding talent and his influence on the team.
It’s clear that some of the biggest and brightest stars in the NFL are getting paid top dollar, and Mahomes’ deal is a testament to that. But the question remains, who will be the next to land such a massive contract? Only time will tell!
