I’m sure many of you have heard about the questions surrounding NFL owners and their potential removal from their spots. It’s a really complex and multi-faceted issue that I believe has been vastly underestimated and misunderstood.
First and foremost, it should be made clear that for an owner to be removed, there needs to be clear proof of misconduct. So, if an owner doesn’t fit criteria that suggest misconduct then according to officially-stated NFL rules, they cannot and won’t be removed. Nevertheless, that doesn’t necessarily mean that an owner has no faults or can’t be removed – so let’s look into this a bit further.
Many people argue that owners should be held to a high standard, and rightfully so, considering the vast amounts of power they possess and the influence they have on how their team is run. With that being said, some owners take their authority far too seriously and show a total lack of empathy or respect for their players and staff members. This isn’t the kind of person that should be running an NFL team.
Removal of an owner is a drastic measure that needs to be thought through very carefully. It should not be done lightly and there must be clear evidence of wrongdoing, like fraud or unethical behavior for an owner to be removed. However, if an owner is misusing their power and is impacting the team negatively, perhaps it’s time to consider the options.

I ain’t no expert nor am I associated with the NFL, but I strongly believe that every owner has a responsibility to act in the best interest of their players and team. That includes making sure rules are followed, that the team’s culture is positive, and that any potential misconduct is dealt with responsibly and appropriately.
Now let’s consider the situation from another perspective. It’s possible that an owner can be taken off of their position if they don’t adequately perform to the standards set by the league. If an owner has caused their team to suffer, like if they have failed to invest in the team properly, they can be held accountable for not meeting the expectations and possibly removed.
Let’s be honest, it’s not easy being a team owner; you have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. But if an owner isn’t doing their job properly, it’s important that they face the music and make room for someone who will better fit the bill.
And of course, the whole notion of an owner being removed applies to any non-NFL franchise just as well. If an owner is misusing their power or not successfully meeting their organizational objectives, then action needs to be taken.
When it comes down to it, it’s okay to critique an owner if they aren’t upholding the standards and expectations set out for them. Just be sure to remember that any action taken must be carefully considered, and removal should only be pursued as a last resort – not a first option.
