how long has nfl played on thanksgiving

I can hardly believe it, but the NFL has been playing football on Thanksgiving for almost a century! Yep, that’s right, like it or not, it’s been a Thanksgiving tradition since the very first NFL game was played in 1920.

It all started with the Detroit Lions, and now it has expanded to include three games. As I like to say, “It’s just not Thanksgiving without a side of NFL action!” To me, it’s as much of a part of the holiday as eating turkey and stuffing.

So, why has the NFL been playing on Thanksgiving? Well, there are a couple of reasons. One theory is that the games give people something to do after their Thanksgiving meals, and the other is that the games capitalize on the ratings boost that the holiday usually brings.

Whatever the reason, the NFL has become a staple of Thanksgiving, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love watching my favorite teams battle it out and seeing the snacks and drinks that people enjoy during the games. Plus, the games provide a great excuse to invite friends over or have a get-together with family members you don’t usually see.

My favorite thing about the NFL playing on Thanksgiving is that it’s like it has always been. Over time the NFL has changed and tweaked the rules, and the teams come and go, but it’s still the same as when it all began. Seeing the parade before each game and hearing the national anthem always gives me goose bumps.

Another thing I love about the NFL games on Thanksgiving is that they’ve gotten more creative over the years. Now T-shirts, hats, and other merchandise are available for most teams. You can even buy food with team logos, so you can show your support while eating Thanksgiving dinner. And, you can dress up as your favorite player or take part in a Thanksgiving tradition, such as a part game.

I think it’s safe to say that the NFL is here to stay on Thanksgiving. That means that every November, I’ll be watching the games with family and friends, cheering for my favorite teams, and celebrating the traditions that have been taking place since the 1920’s.

But, it’s not just the NFL that I’m thankful for on Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for all the other things that make the holiday so special. I’m thankful for gathering with family, the delicious food, and even the leftovers that I can enjoy the next day. I’m thankful for taking time to reflect on all the good things in my life and for being able to spend time with people who are special to me.

I’m also thankful for getting some extra rest, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, and finishing up my holiday shopping. There’s nothing quite like the spirit of the holiday season, and it’s always made even more special by the NFL games.
