I recently read about Joe Thomas, an American NFL player who recently retired after an amazing eleven-year career. Wooooooow! That’s dedication if I ever saw it. Before hearing his story, I didn’t quite understand how grueling the NFL can be, but after learning all about Joe Thomas, I am in awe.
Joe Thomas was drafted in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. That’s pretty impressive. Over the next 11 years, he remained committed to the Browns. He had made a promise to the team and he was determined to keep his word. Indeed, Joe Thomas was one of the most loyal players in the league, starting every single game from the beginning of his career, until the very end.
Every week Joe Thomas would put in a heroic effort on the field, playing 10,363 consecutive snaps. Can you believe that?! During these snaps, Joe Thomas rarely called out a play and never took a break. His endurance and stamina were remarkable, giving him a well-deserved spot in the NFL records.
Joe Thomas certainly built a legacy in the NFL, earning the “Ironman” title. He was even awarded the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2011, and was voted for the Pro Bowl every season. Joe Thomas was true to the game and has proven himself to be a team player.
Seeing Joe Thomas’s determination and devotion to the game of football only heightens my respect for the NFL. His inspiring story shows us that anything is possible amidst dedication, hard work, and an enthusiastic attitude. I’m sure that a lot of people are watching and taking home his positive example.
His retirement last year was certainly bittersweet. Though Joe Thomas will no longer be playing on the field, his positive legacy still lives on in the minds of NFL fans all over the world. Joe will most likely return to the NFL in some capacity, however, and I’m excited to see what he does next.
It’s been a wild ride for Joe Thomas throughout his eleven-year NFL career. From record-breaking snaps, to iconic aiding performances, to selfless and lasting commitment, Joe Thomas’ legacy in the NFL will not soon be forgotten. What an icon – thank you, Joe Thomas!
