I recently heard that some ex-NFL players are now Jehovah’s Witnesses and it really made me curious about the subject. So, I decided to research and find out just how many ex-NFL players were now members of the faith.
I was amazed at what I found. It turns out that there are a lot of ex-players who have become Jehovah’s Witnesses! Of course, the most famous is probably Johnnie Morton who was a wide receiver with the Detroit Lions at one point. He was baptized as a Witness in 2013.
But Johnnie isn’t the only ex-NFL player who is a Witness. Others, such as former offensive lineman Alan Faneca and former linebacker Bobby Carpenter, have also been baptized. There are many others who have left the NFL and are now faithful Witnesses too.
I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting this many ex-NFL players to be Witnesses and I wanted to understand why so many of them have joined the faith. After doing some research, I found that some of the former players found comfort and peace in the teachings of the religion while others have been drawn to the close-knit community of Witnesses.
It’s easy to see why someone would be attracted to the religion; it’s a faith that places an emphasis on family, integrity, and helping others. Plus, the Witnesses are very passionate about their beliefs, which is inspiring.
What’s more, from my research it seems that many of the ex-NFL players who become Witnesses are encouraged to continue pursuing their passions. After all, Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that it’s important to stay active in the community and to find a joy in life. So being part of the faith doesn’t mean that ex-players have to give up entirely on the sport they love.
Overall, it appears that the religion resonates with many of the former NFL athletes and has become a real source of strength and inspiration for them during their post-professional years.
The importance of fellowship is key for many of these ex-NFL players. They enjoy being part of a supportive and understanding community, which is one of the main benefits of being a Witness. The church offers a place where they can gather and express their faith without judgement. They learn the importance of giving back to those around them, and they witness bible-based guidance on how to better their lives and the lives of those around them.
Members of the faith speak highly about the spiritual nourishment they receive from their community. It boils down to the fact that everyone is trying to be better people in the face of criticism and hardships.
The former players who have joined the faith have expressed a newfound hope for a richer meaning to life. The core beliefs of the faith (love, humility, kindness) have spoken to them and made a lasting impression. And, of course, the supportive and vibrant community of Witnesses has given them a place to call home.
