Well, my friend, it’s been heartbreaking to watch yet another football season as major sponsors pull from the NFL. It’s astonishing to see just how many have cut ties with “America’s favorite sport.” Pepsi and Papa John’s have been mainstays in the NFL for decades, and yet both have severed their relationship with the beleaguered league. And of course, who could forget the monumental blow delivered by Nike recently when it pulled away from the NFL?
It’s really shocking to witness just how many sponsors have terminated their relationship with the NFL. Pepsi and Papa John’s are gone and then there’s the departure of one of the NFL’s biggest sponsors, Nike. And that’s just the start! Since the start of the 2018 season, major sponsors such as EA Sports, Bud Light and even Intel have ended their connections with the NFL. The list goes on and on!
It’s heartbreaking to see so many big corporations, companies, and organizations distancing themselves from the NFL. To think that Nike, a company that has been a major partner since 2012, has said enough is enough – it’s just painful to witness. Likewise, Bud Light, who was the official beer of the NFL since 2011 was just one of the many companies to have cut ties with the league.
But what’s most concerning about the mass exodus is what it could mean for the future of the NFL. We could soon see an unrecognizable line-up of sponsors. As of now, the league only has two major sponsors remaining; Microsoft and Bose. How can the NFL survive this without the major sponsors on which it relies for support?
The best that the NFL can do at the moment is to try and repair its reputation and trust with sponsors. But even this could take years, and the NFL has been slow to act in the past. It’s a monumental challenge, and one that the league must face soon if it wants to survive.
When it comes to how many sponsors have backed out from the NFL, there’s no denying that it’s a major issue. It’s no wonder why. If all these companies have pulled out, then there must be challenges facing the NFL. It’s up to us to be vigilant and ensure that the league returns to its former glory.
That said, there are a few companies that seem to still have faith in the NFL as evidenced by the league’s most recent mega deal with Amazon. The $130M streaming deal will come into effect for the 2022 season, and Amazon will be the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football in the US. Perhaps this could mean a renewed hope for the NFL.
But unfortunately, that may not be enough. We could see other sponsors such as Fox, CBS, and ESPN, cut their ties with the league too, making it harder for the NFL to survive this destructive period. Hope is not lost yet, though, and hopefully, the NFL can work with its remaining sponsors to turn the situation around.
Overall, the NFL has lost the trust of so many major sponsors, and the consequences of that have been felt keenly. There’s a huge challenge for the league to face in order to retain its current sponsors and bring in new ones. It’s hard to stay positive in light of all this, but there could be an end in sight if the NFL plays its cards right.
