I’m sure you’ve heard the news that NFL training camps are open.​ And I’m beyond ecstatic! Although this pandemic has taken away so much from us, it doesn’t have to take away the pleasure of football.​ But as with any positive news, there are sure to be some downsides too.​

For starters, NFL training camps will be very different this year.​ For starters, free agents and rookies will have to spend their time at home instead of actually meeting and shaking hands with their coaches and team-mates.​ Next, players and staff must take multiple coronavirus tests throughout the week in order to even be on site for camp.​ This means long lines, heightened anxiety and an overall tornado of emotions.​

On top of that, each team has to follow strict guidelines to ensure the safety of its players.​ This includes temperature checks, face masks, and no physical contact of any type during team functions.​ That means no team meetings in hotel rooms, no team dinners, and no pre-practice huddles.​ It’s certainly a sobering reality of the time we’re in.​

But, these changes don’t have to be a negative thing.​ Training and practices will look a lot different this year, but the same maniacal passion that fuel the NFL will remain alive and well.​ Teams will still have the chance to battle it out on the field and run through those same plays every week.​ That can still give us a sense of normalcy and a reminder that we can still find moments of joy and love in the slightest of things.​

It won’t be business as usual, but it doesn’t have to be.​ This could be an opportunity for teams, coaches and players alike to stretch their wings and adjust to the changing times.​ Perhaps safety protocols during training camps can inspire new creative formations and plays for teams to try out.​

Plus, with no pads needed, it makes the risk of using all the new twists and turns and player types a little bit lower.​ All these little differences could add up to a happier and heartier atmosphere during training camp, giving players a chance to come together as a team and learn more about each others’ play styles.​

At the end of the day, NFL training camps are open – and that’s something we should all be celebrating.​ Sure, it’s not a normal year, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be a great one.​

Now let’s move on to the broader picture now.​ With the opening of these training camps, teams are readying for an entirely new experience.​ Pre-season games will be few and far between, if any, and practices usually reserved due to their importance may be a prime opportunity to install new plays and mimic game situations.​

But, with the unknown factors of the 2020 NFL season, teams, coaches, and players alike will have to scramble for new methods of preparing.​ This means in-depth fitness regimens, creative ways of analyzing opponents, and finding new way to communicate and connect.​

It’s very possible that this fight against the pandemic may lead to significant changes in NFL team operations and training regimens.​ Practice squads and rosters may be larger, as teams rely on their depth to overcome the long, grueling season.​ With no pre-season games, teams may use film study more often, investing more heavily in their scouting departments.​

At the same time, training camps may become more heavily innovated to use technology that can both limit physical contact between players and act as a heightened scouting device.​ For example, wearables that record and track the performance and movement of players will be at an all-time high.​

Practices may also be more heavily scrutinized, given the unique circumstances this season.​ Both coaches and players will have to be extra diligent in their preparation and analytics, as teams will most likely not get as big a sample size as years prior.​

Finally, with the current state of the world, teams will have to adapt to innovations posed to them in the form of remote activities and virtual training sessions.​ It’s easily conceivable that teams will use virtual reality simulations and chat rooms more heavily as a way to stay on the same page.​

In closing, with the NFL training camps open, there’s a lot of uncertainties.​ But, this can also be a chance for teams and players alike to get better than ever.​ We’ll just have to wait and see how the league will adjust the 2020 season.​

I can’t believe I recently took on a NFL logo quiz! It was a bit of a daunting challenge at first, so much so that I was sure I’d fail miserably.​ But I figured, why not? After all, I’m a big fan of the NFL and it was something to do in my spare time.​

I was a little nervous as I started, flipping back and forth between different teams’ logos, trying to match them up with the names.​ And while I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, I eventually got into a groove.​ I started to remember some of the details from previous seasons, where teams changed small things in their logo, and the little moments started to add up.​

By the end of the quiz, I was feeling both elated and exhausted.​ I had made it through this intimidating challenge and even gotten some of the trickier questions right.​ The more I thought about it, the more the experience began to feel like a real accomplishment–especially since I’m not a particularly great visual memory person! I felt that my resilience in tackling this quiz was something to be proud of.​

Throughout this quiz, I was reminded of the thing I love most about the NFL: how entertaining and unpredictable it can be.​ Especially when it comes to the logos, there are some really cool designs that I was reminded of taking this quiz.​ The Bears’ logo, for example, looks so cool and intimidating with the angry-looking bear head.​ Even the Bengals’ logo that looks so simple, has a subtle mix of orange and black that still brings a powerful image to mind.​

From the start of the season until the Super Bowl, NFL commercials take on an ever-playful tone.​ I know some people who watch NFL games just for the commercials! They’re that good! Whether it’s an adorable puppy making a touchdown or a kid tackling his dad, NFL commercials are almost always too good to pass up.​

I personally have fond memories of a certain commercial that aired during the playoffs.​ It starts off with a white-gloved football referee, displaying all the confidence of a formidable judge overseeing a trial.​ He holds up a yellow flag and announces, “Finishing second in the NFL is like getting a participation trophy in a game.​” The commercial then showed a series of intense, action-filled images of football players giving gleefully exuberant touchdown celebrations.​ Needless to say, I found the commercial to be quite inspirational.​

Another commercial that sticks out in my mind was a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, which showed a team of tailgating football fans proudly displaying their incredible variety of team-colors face paintings.​ It was an incredibly entertaining commercial and had me grinning ear-to-ear by the end.​

The worst team in the NFL is a tough one.​ After all, the NFC and AFC both have their own share of lackluster performances.​ This year, however, it seems like the worst team in the league is pretty easy to spot.​ The team in question is the Jacksonville Jaguars.​

As a Jaguars fan, I’m embarrassed to have them representing my hometown.​ They haven’t had a winning season since 2017, and the way they look on the field is an absolute disaster.​ The offensive line can’t block for their quarterback or running backs, the defense gives up too many big plays, and the front office has made plenty of questionable personnel decisions.​ It’s enough to drive any fan crazy!

The Jaguars have been hit with seemingly endless injuries this season, leading to too many backups playing.​ Unfortunately, these are not good replacements as the team has had some of the worst depth in the NFL.​ Things don’t seem to be improving either, as the team’s current losing streak could stretch to twelve games by season’s end.​ It’s just an overall depressing sight.​

It isn’t just the players that are overmatched, either.​ Former head coach Doug Marrone was recently fired, showing that the front office was unhappy with the job he was doing.​ And the team’s current head coach, Urban Meyer, hasn’t looked particularly capable of getting the Jaguars out of the hole they’re in.​ It’s almost as if the entire organization wants to quit on the season.​

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been pitiful this year, and it’s not difficult to understand why.​ Almost every unit on the team has had some issue or another, and the coaching staff has made several questionable decisions.​ What’s been even more crushing than the team’s performance on the field is the lack of effort being put forth by the entire organization.​ It’s almost like they’ve already given up on the season.​

I cannot help but shake my head in disappointment at the thought of the Jaguars being so bad this year.​ It’s almost like they are symbolic of how slow and regressive the NFL can be at times.​ It’s a real shame that the worst team in the league this season is from my beloved Jacksonville.​

Adding to my disappointment is the fact that the Jaguars show no real signs of improvement this year.​ Even with several quarterbacks on the roster, the team does not seem to have a clear strategy for winning.​ To make matters worse, the head coaching situation is also in a constant state of flux.​

It’s a shame too, because the Jaguars have been one of the bright spots in the NFL for the last two decades.​ They made the playoffs several times and even made a run to the AFC Championship game.​ Unfortunately, this year the team looks to be in full regression.​

The issue then becomes which team is worse than the Jaguars? Sure, there are others with worse records, like the Jets and Bengals, but neither of those teams look to be the greatest embarrassment to their home city.​ Therefore, it’s easy to say that the Jacksonville Jaguars are the worst team in the league this season.​
