My favorite sports team is the NFL Shield. When I witnesses the iconic symbol rise, with its star proudly beaming in the center, I can’t help but get a little emotional. The colors represent passion and honour, something I feel for the sport and the teams representing their respective cities and families.
When I see the players suit up in the shield, it signifies that these men are warriors, ready to battle for the game. Watching them walk out onto the field brings a lump to my throat every time. As they rally around the American flag for the national anthem, there’s a sense of patriotism and pride that washes over me.
The shield also symbolizes the bond shared by the millions of fans around the world. We may have different teams, but we’re united by the shield. No matter where I am in the world, it always makes me do a double take; the Shield is a sign that I’m home.

Talking about the game-day rituals, it’s tradition that the players and coaches all wear the shield loud and proud on their gear. Whenever I see someone wearing the shield, I know they’re with me in spirit, showing their pride for the sport and the team. And of course, there’s the tailgating. What better way to show your team spirit and appreciation for the Shield than to tailgate with fellow fans? Whether it’s grilling up hamburgers and hot dogs or firing up the corn-hole boards, I love getting together with all the fans under the shield to celebrate a great game.
I recall my first time going to a professional football game. It was the first time I saw the shield out in full force; banners hanging everywhere, people wearing apparel bearing the logo, and the players making their way onto the field – it was breathtaking. From that moment on, I was hooked; I understood the spirit of the shield and was truly part of the game.
