What I didn’t anticipate was how many people had gone through similar experiences.​ After reaching out, I found a great network of like-minded people who had been through the same thing.​ We could all relate to each other’s stories and experiences.​ We could commiserate our fears, anxieties, and doubts, but at the same time celebrate our success and progress.​ It was a beacon of hope and comfort when I really needed it.​

Although I was no longer employed at the company, I felt like I had made a considerable impact.​ There was a collective sense of loss that I could see when I heard the words, “you’re fired”.​ I had worked hard to make sure my coworkers felt safe and respected, and it was a gut-punch to have to leave them.​

It’s also worth noting that NFL teams often let go of their staff for different reasons: financial, performance-based, or simply restructuring.​ Most teams are very strict about hiring and firing policies, so it’s not something they can take lightly.​ But it’s worth recognizing that it’s a difficult thing to go through for everyone involved.​

It’s also important to reach out and find a community of people dealing with the same thing.​ You don’t have to feel like you’re alone in this experience.​ All you have to do is reach out and find other people who have gone through similar situations.​

In the world of sport, the players and staff of NFL teams often have to adjust to decisions made by owners and front office personnel.​ As such, they need to learn how to handle major changes such as being fired without letting it define them.​ Yes, it can be a tough and emotional experience, but it doesn’t have to be the end of your career.​ It’s okay to take some time to process the emotions and get back on your feet.​ Self-care is just as important as work and career, and it’s important to remember that.​

Furthermore, when a team has to make personnel decisions, it’s important to recognize the impact that those decisions have on the lives of the employees.​ It’s not something to be taken lightly and it’s important to be aware of the effects of being fired, both to the people losing their jobs and those staying behind.​
